Date Bread

1 1/2  cups chopped dates
1  teaspoon baking soda
1  cup boiling water

Mix together and let stand.


2  tablespoons melted shortening
1  cup sugar (Splenda® Granular can be
     substituted)
1  egg
2  cups flour
1/4  teaspoon salt
1  cup chopped walnuts

Mix shortening, sugar and egg together and then add other ingredients. Bake in a bread pan. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 60 minutes.
