It was the Minnesota State Fair 1937. A brash 17 year old (my father) and his buddy were checking out all the good looking girls. She (my mother) came on the bus with her girl friend and they were enjoying the fair.
My father would be a senior at Marshall High School in the fall; my mother was a senior at Roosevelt High School. As she walked by, he approached her and asked if he could have his picture taken with a pretty girl – her. She agreed and the foursome spent the rest of the day at the fair. She would not let him drive her home; she was not that kind of girl. So he and his buddy followed the bus to the girls´ stop. It was that simple. Bugs and Helen married 5 years later. |
